One of the zebras in this herd on the Serengeti in Tanzania was having a dust bath as we came upon them. Zebras (and other animals) may use dust baths as a means of ridding themselves of parasites.
The image is also a good example of one of the zebras' protections from predators. If one looks into the middle of the herd it is difficult to tell where one zebra stops and another starts. This can lead to attack errors by predators.
