As I stood on the dock on an early misty morning in September, a juvenile loon surfaced just in front of me. Shortly thereafter, Mama surfaced beside the not so little one. As can be seen, Mama spread her wings and shook the water off them as I looked on. Later she demonstrated continuing maternal attachment to her offspring by giving it a fish she had caught, though the juvenile was certainly old enough to manage this on its own. I happily watched them for ten minutes or more until their final dive took them away.
This black and white image was taken on Lake Muskoka in the heart of Cottage Country in Ontario, Canada. Cottagers on these lakes are entranced by the calls of the loon. Canadians are so enamored of the loon that our dollar coin has a loon on one side, and is commonly known as the 'loonie'.

- What's New...
My main photography interests are landscapes and wildlife and my camera is never far from me. I live in Muskoka, the heart of Ontario's 'cottage country' and this provides endless photo opportunities. When I travel, I love to capture my away experiences on camera and bring them home with me.
